De Frie Danske

                                                                                                               April 10, 1940
                              Fireworks on the Water

As the cannons blew, lights sparked, all of Copenhagen was awaken to “Fireworks” on the water. The ships burnt as King Christian X stood proud of his decision to burn his only naval ships to keep the enemy from taking control. But, through the very few hours left in the cold, Danish, night the Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler moved his army on to every street corner in Denmark.
As King Christian usually does every morn, he rode his horse through the pebbled streets of Copenhagen, but now the Nazi soilders line his streets and make the capital city, cold, fearful, and curious of what the Nazis’ will do next. As very few  know Adolf Hitler, the leader of most of Europe and the Nazi power is determined to “extinguish”all of the
Jewish race, other races, people with disabilities, and other beliefs. The resistance, a group of young men and women who risk their lives to find information, destroy the German bases, and to stop Hitler from taking Jews and the others to concentration camps, have created this newspaper to inform the Danish people of what the TRUTH is about the Nazi people. It all started in 1933 when the German people let Adolf Hitler take over their country, believing he would make the country rich, powerful, and a fear to all others. One by one, Hitler took over many countries in Europe, now gaining control of Denmark he is one more step closer to taking over the world, with his evil mind and evil ways. The Resistance is working on ways to smuggle Jews to safe places such as Sweden which remains free.

If you are found hiding a Jew or smuggling Jews to Sweden or some place else, you also will have to face the concentration camps, labor camps, murder, possibly in time square or other puplic places. Hitler also will have you dig your own grave in concentration camps. Make you work for him and his people. Germans’ have also come up with gas showers, to have people be gassed, in  exturmination camps. King Christain is proud of his small country and what we have become, and someday, when the war is over, we will overcome the impossible and make it possible.

The First of Many

“ Momma! When are we going to Maw maw’s?” I bugged my mom as we cleaned up the living room from the ocean of wrapping paper.

“At lunch, now go get ready!” My mom yelled from her bathroom. I finished with the living room and went to my bedroom to slip on my Ugg snow boots. It was 11:30 as we headed out, across the street.

As my dad stopped the car I jumped out and banged on my grandparent’s backdoor. I saw my tall grandfather, Diddy answer the door. We all pilled in with presents and food in hands. It was the first “real” Christmas with my grandparents. Usually one of them comes over a few days before Christmas and we exchange gifts, but this year, finally it was different. We started with the gifts. As my sister looked at her’s and I looked at mine, my mom said “ What are y’all waiting for? Open them!”

My sister and I exchanged looks as we tore open the bags from my grandma, gently folded in mine was some pajamas, and a fifty dollar bill. Then we saw my grandpa’s gifts. We ran over to the table, the shiny wrapping shined in the light.

“Woah. Heavy!” I said laughing. Kylie (my sister) and I ripped open the shiny paper, to find each an I pad! We were so excited, we were so grateful for what both our grandparents’ gave us, so we finished the next five hours with snacks of different genres. It was out first “real” Christmas as a huge crazy family, and hopefully, more will come!
